Can The Green Cloud Help Build Sustainable Future? Here’s What Experts Have To Say

By creating Cloud infrastructure, which offers innovative sustainable environmental efforts as well as technical and economic benefits, traditional networks are reinvented, according to experts

Businesses explore new opportunities to use Cloud computing as technology develops in order to collect more statistics and data and stay ahead of the curve. Unquestionably, Cloud computing has always been regarded as one of the most important technological advancements that has provided space for growth for numerous businesses starting a digital transformation. Although it has long been criticised for having a negative impact on the environment, green Cloud computing is making it a more and more attractive option for achieving sustainable computing. By creating Cloud infrastructure, which offers innovative sustainable environmental efforts as well as technical and economic benefits, traditional networks are reinvented.

"Green Cloud architecture comprises energy management, load balancing, green data centers, virtualisation, robust computing, renewability, reuse option, recycling optioning, and so on. It is envisaged that with green Cloud energy overall efficiency can be increased by over 90 per cent and a similar 90 per cent lowering of the deadly greenhouse emissions as compared to IT infrastructure on premises of any business. We are all for a sustainable future with green cloud computing as the cloud is the future," says R S Maan, managing director and global CRO, Codleo.

The Green Cloud will increase energy efficiency, reduce carbon footprints, and significantly lessen the enormous amount of e-waste that is endangering our future, particularly with soil degradation.

"By utilising virtualisation, server consolidation, and renewable energy sources, green Cloud computing can reduce energy consumption, waste, and costs, while still providing businesses with the performance and scalability they need. With green Cloud computing coming into the picture, data center providers can ensure quick implementation of changes related to data centers and save on time. Green Cloud computing is not a luxury anymore, it has become a necessity for a sustainable future for coming generations. Together, we can ensure a more sustainable future for our planet," says Ratan Dargan, co-founder and CTO, ThoughtSol Infotech Pvt. Ltd.

Gartner predicts that by 2025 carbon emissions from hyper scale Cloud services will drive cloud purchase decisions. As sustainability issues and advocacy rise, its imperative organizations take steps toward constructing a sustainable Cloud strategy.

"Shifting to the Cloud can also be a sustainable solution due to cleaner energy transitions, less material wastage, targeted R&D, and faster analytics platforms. Enterprises using on-premises databases may experience several challenges, including installation, back-up, and maintenance, and hardware management. Moreover, businesses spend a lot of resources updating and upgrading hardware and software, which requires additional power and cooling systems. Moving to the Cloud can efficiently reduce 84 per cent of carbon emissions, as per the analysis by Accenture. These reductions can be further realised if the applications are designed specifically for the Cloud," says Scott Horn, chief marketing officer, EnterpriseDB.

The idea of green Cloud computing is no longer a luxury; rather, it is quickly turning into a bare minimum requirement for a sustainable future for our children and grandchildren. Cloud service providers should be aware of the numerous benefits and opportunities offered by implementing innovative green Cloud computing, which enables them to save time, energy, and resources and, in the long run, lays the groundwork for a greener future.
