Banks will remain operational on Saturday, January 4, 2025, as it is the first Saturday of the month. Bank holidays in India are not uniform across the country, as regional and local festivities influence them. To determine whether banks in your area it is important to consult the official holiday list released by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). This list offers a detailed overview of bank holidays for all states throughout the year, ensuring that you have accurate information about closures in your region.

According to the RBI holiday calendar, banks in India will be closed for a total of 13 days during January, including public holidays, regional holidays, and regular closures on Sundays and the second and fourth Saturdays. January will feature festivals such as New Year’s Day, Sri Guru Gobind Singh’s Birthday, and Makar Sankranti. While banks will be closed on these specific dates, customers can still access banking services through net banking, ATMs, mobile apps, and bank websites.

RBI categorises holidays into three types: Real-Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) Holiday, Banks’ Closing of Accounts Holiday, and Holidays under the Negotiable Instruments Act. In addition to these, banks in India are closed on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month. This practice was introduced by the RBI in 2015 when it mandated that both private and public sector banks would remain closed on these Saturdays. On other Saturdays, banks operate as usual for the full day. Furthermore, banks are closed on Sundays across the country. During state-specific festivals, banks will be closed only in the respective states, while national holidays result in closures across all regions.

Here Is A List Of The January 2025 Bank Holidays Across Different Regions:

January 1 (Wednesday): New Year’s Day/Loosong/Namsoong – Banks will be closed in Aizawl, Chennai, Gangtok, Imphal, Itanagar, Kohima, Kolkata, and Shillong.

January 2 (Thursday): Loosong/Namsoong/New Year Celebration – Banks will remain shut in Aizawl and Gangtok.

January 6 (Monday): Sri Guru Gobind Singh’s Birthday – Banks will be closed in Chandigarh.

January 11 (Saturday): Missionary Day/Imoinu Iratpa – Banks will be closed in Aizawl and Imphal.

January 14 (Tuesday): Makar Sankranti/Uttarayana Punyakala/Pongal/Maghe Sankranti/Magh Bihu/Birthday of Hazrat Ali – Banks will stay closed in Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Gangtok, Guwahati, Hyderabad (Andhra Pradesh), Hyderabad (Telangana), Itanagar, Kanpur, and Lucknow.

January 15 (Wednesday): Thiruvalluvar Day – Banks will remain closed in Chennai.

January 16 (Thursday): Uzhavar Thirunal – Banks will be shut in Chennai.

January 23 (Thursday): Birthday of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose/Vir Surendrasai Jayanti – Banks will remain closed in Agartala, Bhubaneswar, and Kolkata.
