Amazon Layoffs: Tech Firm Cuts More Jobs From Several Teams

Amazon Layoffs: The layoffs are part of Amazon CEO Andy Jassy's ongoing efforts to reshape the company since he took over from founder Jeff Bezos in 2021

Amazon is carrying out another round of layoffs, this time cutting a "small number of roles" in its communications department. This move is part of the company's ongoing efforts to streamline operations and reduce costs. It is also aligned with Amazon's broader strategy to cut bureaucracy, enhance efficiency, and help teams operate more quickly while staying closer to customers.

Amazon spokesperson Brad Glasser confirmed the decision to Bloomberg, stating that the company had recently conducted a review of its communications and corporate responsibility organisation. As a result of this review, Amazon decided to implement changes, including eliminating certain roles.

"These decisions are never easy, but they are necessary to help us move faster, increase ownership, and strengthen our culture while bringing our teams closer to customers. We are committed to supporting the employees affected during this transition,” Glasser said.

The layoffs are part of Amazon CEO Andy Jassy's ongoing efforts to reshape the company since he took over from founder Jeff Bezos in 2021. Under Jassy’s leadership, Amazon has implemented a series of job cuts and scaled back several ambitious projects that no longer align with the company’s core business. This includes thousands of job reductions across various departments as part of a broader strategy to streamline operations.

Amazon’s largest wave of job cuts took place in 2022, impacting 27,000 corporate roles across various departments. Since then, the company has implemented smaller, more targeted layoffs aimed at specific teams and areas in need of downsising. The communications department is the latest to be affected as Amazon continues to focus on cost-cutting and operational efficiency.

Alongside layoffs, Amazon has also introduced a return-to-office mandate for its corporate employees, requiring them to work from the office five days a week. While some viewed this as a tactic to encourage voluntary resignations, CEO Andy Jassy stressed that it was aimed at reinforcing Amazon’s corporate culture.
