Volkswagen Golf GTI Vs Mini Cooper S: Which Hot Hatch Is More Powerful?

While there are only a limited number of cars on sale for the first lot being around 150 units, the Golf GTI is the second GTI after the Polo GTI to come with a large engine.

Prices for the Golf GTI are not out yet but we expect it to be around Rs 50-60 lakh also.

The battle for performance hatchbacks have intensified with Volkswagen bringing its global hot hatch, the Golf GTI to India. While there are only a limited number of cars on sale for the first lot being around 150 units, the Golf GTI is the second GTI after the Polo GTI to come with a large engine. In terms of the Golf GTI, the car in question has a 265hp 2.0 litre TFSI turbo petrol which comes with a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox.

The 0-100kph time is pretty quick being 5.9 seconds for the Golf GTI. There is not much comparison for the Golf GTI in India in terms of rivals except for the Mini Cooper S which also has a 2.0-litre turbo petrol which develops less power though at 204hp while the 0-100 km/h time is 6.6 seconds.

The Golf GTI is already sold out in terms of being a limited edition performance car while both cars feature a sporty design except the Golf comes with a five door design while the Mini is a 3-door. Both cars are also pretty feature packed but also have sporty details which make them stand out.

The Mini Cooper S is priced at Rs 44.90 lakh starting the JCW version with even more aggressive styling bits is Rs 55.90 lakh. Prices for the Golf GTI are not out yet but we expect it to be around Rs 50-60 lakh also. While demand for hot hatchbacks are limited, the sold out status of the Golf GTI does show the increasing demand for performance cars in India.
