Tata Tiago Vs Citroen eC3 EV: Battle Of Affordable Electric Hatchbacks

While both cars look similar to their petrol counterparts some distinguishing design touches are done to differentiate it as the EV version.

New Delhi: We wait for an eternity for an affordable EV and now two come along. Tata Motors recently launched the Tiago EV with an attractive price tag of Rs 8.4 lakh and now Citroen is readying its own electric car, the eC3. Both cars will look similar to their petrol counterparts with some distinguishing design touches to differentiate them as the EV version.

The Tiago EV like the Tigor EV has blue accents with tri-arrow elements in the design. The wheel design is also different along with an exclusive colour option as well. The Citroen eC3 is expected to have the same design but might come with subtle design changes and coloured accents. Of course, the charging ports are now added in.

Inside, the Tiago EV continues with the blue accents while coming with features like connected car tech, climate control, auto headlamps, rain-sensing wipers along with multi-mode regen. The C3 will carry forward its interior but will get a revised centre console with a gear selector and might get more feature additions.

The main talking point is the range as both of these cars are the most affordable EVs hence, the range figure is very important for any first-time EV buyer. The Tiago EV comes with two battery packs with the larger 24kWh version having a range of 315km. The car can also be topped up via DC fast charging. We expect the eC3 to have a 30.2kWh battery pack while the range would be expected to be in the vicinity of 350km. The eC3 will also be fast charger compliant and will come with an AC charger.

The top-end Tiago EV with the larger battery pack is priced at Rs 11.7 lakh while we expect the eC3 to be priced between Rs 10-12 lakh around the same price point as the Tiago EV. Hence, there are now not one but two choices in the affordable EV space which will push for further EV adoption in India.
