Sharp New MG HS SUV Is A Plug In Hybrid That Makes Sense For India
The new HS is bigger than the previous generation and having made its debut in the UK, it is now a large SUV with a new look
MG Motor has several products in its worldwide range and the HS SUV is its 5-seater premium family SUV which is a plug in hybrid. If launched in India, the HS would be slotted below the Gloster and would be a rival to the 5-seater premium SUVs like the Hyundai Tucson and Skoda Kodiaq.
The new HS is bigger than the previous generation and having made its debut in the UK, it is now a large SUV with a new look. There is a large two-part grille plus a tapered roofline. The sharp headlamps are swept back while it does lend the SUV an aggressive look. The interior too gets twin 12.3-inch screens plus features like a 360 degree camera plus more space.

Other features include dual zone air conditioning, ADAS, heated front seats with being electric and more. Of interest is the plug-in hybrid version which has a 1.5l turbo petrol along with a larger electric motor while the total power is near 300bhp. It is also quite efficient for an SUV of its class. The EV only range is also ample 120km.
Transmission options for the base turbo petrol include a 6-speed manual plus a 7-speed DCT transmission. The MG HS is a premium SUV which could work in hybrid form and would be another premium SUV above the ZS but below the Gloster while occupying the 5-seater premium SUV segment.
For now, MG will launch the CUV in India with the Cloud while it recently showed the Cyberster two-door sports car. MG has said that it will focus on EVs and launch many products while also looking at hybrids.
