New Maruti Ertiga First Look Review: Affordable MPV Gets New Automatic Gearbox Plus More

The new Ertiga gets some big updates and that means it is now up to speed with a new automatic gearbox and more features.

New Delhi: The Ertiga set the template for the affordable MPV years back and the current-gen model has been a huge success selling in big numbers due to its looks, comfort, practicality and efficiency. It was the mass-market MPV that fit wallets.

The new Ertiga gets some big updates and that means it is now up to speed with a new automatic gearbox and more features. However, the practicality and mileage also increase. Let's take a look.

Different looks

Maruti has not massively changed the styling of the new Ertiga but it does get a new grille, new alloys and chrome garnish. The new grille does make the Ertiga look more premium too while the same can be said for the alloy wheels. Maruti has also added new paint choices.

Inside story

The interiors of the new Ertiga get a new wood finish while also a dual-tone upholstery change the previous interior colour.

Practicality also increases with the access to the third-row being easier as the 2nd row seat comes equipped with a one touch recline and slide mechanism.

The 50:50 split 3rd row seats with seat back recliner and flat fold option.

The Ertiga comes with roof-mounted AC for rear passengers with multiple adjustable air vents and three-stage speed.

However, a bigger change is the new Smart Play Pro infotainment system which is a 7inch touchscreen with a new interface.

There are voice commands with 'Hi Suzuki' while connected tech is also given in the Ertiga. Suzuki Connect skill for Amazon Alexa comes in too.

You can do remote commands and other functions like with other connected tech options. Other features include Cruise Control, Driver side auto-window up with anti-pinch, Auto headlamps with follow me home functionality, retractable key-operated ORVMs, rear camera display, 4 airbags etc.

New engine and gearbox

There is just one engine with the Ertiga but there is now a CNG option available too. The standard 1.5l petrol is a new dualjet motor which comes with a 5-speed manual as before but there is now a new 6-speed automatic with paddle shifters. The power is more at 103bhp and 137Nm. Importantly the mileage stands at 20.30kpl for the automatic which is an impressive number for a petrol auto MPV. Ertiga S-CNG is available in Vxi and Zxi with a mileage of 26.11km/kg (CNG).

Verdict

The prices continue to make it an affordable MPV and the efficiency is also very good which means the core points remain the same but the Ertiga is now more desirable than before especially with the automatic along with the CNG version coming in.
