Jimny Bookings Increased After Price Reveal, No 4x2 Coming Anytime Soon: Maruti Suzuki's Shashank Srivastava

While speaking to ABP reporter Somnath Chatterjee, Maruti Suzuki's Senior Executive Officer, Marketing and Sales, revealed that Jimny continued to gain traction post its price reveal.

New Delhi: The 5-door Jimny SUV was recently launched and there has been a lot of talk regarding its pricing. It has a starting price of Rs 12.7 lakh along with features like 6 airbags and 4x4 as standard. While speaking to ABP Auto Live Somnath Chatterjee, Maruti Suzuki's Senior Executive Officer, Marketing and Sales, revealed that Jimny continued to gain traction post its price reveal.

Speaking about its pricing, Srivastava said that the Jimny comes with a 5-door configuration and 4x4 as standard, hence the pricing. While there have been demands for a cheaper 4x2 model which will bring down the price, Srivastava said that the 4x4 capability is the backbone of the Jimny along with the fact that a 4x2 model will not be introduced for now.

Also post the price reveal, bookings for the Jimny have seen an increase from 90 per day to around 150 bookings per day.

He stated that currently, demand is high for the Jimny and the first Maruti Suzuki will cater to this demand while assessing the sales of the first few months to ascertain the volume's potential.

He also said that the Jimny could be looked at for the Army like the iconic Gypsy though for now production would be catered to the customer demand. Based on feedback, Jimny was developed to be a more practical 5-door version for the Indian market, he added.

The Maruti Suzuki Jimny comes with a 1.5l petrol engine along with a standard 5-speed manual gearbox and a 4-speed automatic torque converter. The Jimny is sold via the Nexa sales outlets and has been added to the SUV range to further increase its market share.

Further on, Maruti Suzuki intends to grow the Nexa brand and increase its sales with new products like the Fronx and Jimny along with the Invicto MPV coming soon. The Invicto will be the most premium Nexa product based on the Innova Hycross with bookings being started soon while it will be revealed on July 5.
