Kia EV6 vs BMW i4: EV Comparison Review

The differences are obvious in the fact that i4 is a sedan and EV6 is a crossover. The i4 is based on the 3 Series architecture while the EV6 is based on a new electric car platform called e-GMP.

New Delhi: Electric cars are suddenly in the spotlight and the latest two EVs are competing with each other on price and range. These two EVs have the highest range in India and also have identical pricing it seems. The BMW i4 and Kia EV6 are however different cars but for EV buyers they might be alternatives. The differences are obvious in the fact that the i4 is a sedan and the EV6 is a crossover. The i4 is based on the 3 Series architecture while the EV6 is based on a new electric car platform called e-GMP. In terms of range and battery pack size, the i4 has the highest range amongst EVs and is slightly more than the EV6. The i4 eDrive 40 has a 83.9 kWh battery pack and a range of 590km. The EV6 has a 77.4kWh battery pack with the range being around 528km.

The i4 in India comes available in a single motor spec version which makes 340hp and 430Nm while the EV6 has more options with a single motor and a dual motor version. The dual motor version gets AWD and more grip while the power on offer is 325hp and 605Nm. It seems the EV6 has more torque but less power than the i4.

Kia EV6 vs BMW i4: EV Comparison Review

Other crucial highlights include the space and the ground clearance. The i4 is a sedan and has a bit less space at the back while the EV6 has a longer wheelbase plus a flat floor. In terms of ground clearance the i4 has a low ground clearance of 125mm and the EV6 meanwhile has 178mm.

The BMW has luxury features like three zone climate control, latest i-Drive system, LED ambient lighting, sunroof, 17-speaker Harman Kardon surround sound system. The Kia also gets ambient lighting, ADAS features, heads up display with Augmented reality, sunroof and ventilated front seats and V2L charging ability. The i4 is priced at just under Rs 70 lakh and we expect the EV6 to also be priced along that figure since both are CBU which means they would be imported. However, the i4 would be available to more buyers as the EV6 is only limited to 100 units in India.

Overall, the i4 has more range but less ground clearance while the EV6 has more space along with some extra features. Both EVs are having regenerative braking plus fast charging which tops up the battery quickly while also providing a wallbox charger.
