Lunar Eclipse 2024 Date, Timing, And Sutak Period In India:

The lunar eclipse will commence at 06:11 AM Indian Standard Time and will end at 10:17 AM. It will be a partial lunar eclipse, which will not be visible in India.

Since the eclipse will not be visible in India, the Sutak period (a time of inauspiciousness before an eclipse) will not be observed here. However, this eclipse will be visible in several countries, including Europe, Australia, Africa, the Atlantic, Pacific, Antarctic, and parts of North, West, and Central America.

Religious And Astrological Perspectives:

In Hinduism and astrology, lunar eclipses are regarded as inauspicious. During such times, it is customary to avoid performing certain activities. While India will not experience the eclipse and hence the Sutak period is not applicable, it is still advisable to observe some precautions. This is particularly important as the first Shraddh of Pitru Paksha will fall on the same day. Pregnant women should also exercise additional caution during the eclipse.

Increased Rahu-Ketu Influence During The Eclipse:

According to astrology, the influence of Rahu and Ketu on Earth intensifies during a lunar eclipse. This leads to prohibitions on performing auspicious and religious tasks. Disregarding these restrictions may result in adverse outcomes.

Activities To Avoid During The Lunar Eclipse:

  • Avoid performing religious rituals and touching idols of deities during the eclipse.
  • Complete any Shraddh or Tarpan rituals for ancestors only after the eclipse has ended.
  • Refrain from touching or performing rituals with Tulsi, and avoid offering water to it during the eclipse.
  • Avoid eating, going outside, or sleeping during the eclipse.
  • Pregnant women should avoid using sharp objects and should not go to isolated places during the eclipse.
