Congress's Avidur Rahman won Araria assembly seat in 2015 Bihar Assembly Elections by a margin of 40044 votes. Runner-up Ajay Kumar Jha of Lok Janshakti Party bagged 52623 votes. Third position was held by Communist Party of India's Dr(Capt.) S. R. Jha while Haider Yasin of Jan Adhikar Party (Loktantrik) held the fourth spot.
