A small bridge collapsed in Siwan district of Bihar on Saturday, in second-such incident reported in the state within a week. District magistrate Mukul Kumar Gupta confirmed the bridge collapse, which connected villages in the Daraunda and Maharajganj blocks.
The bridge collapsed at around five in the morning on Saturday. However, no injuries were reported after the incident.
"Nobody was injured in the incident. It was a very old structure and apparently, pillars caved in when water was released through the canal. We are trying to ensure that until it is restored, residents of affected villages face as little inconvenience as possible," said DM, Times of India reported.

The Block Development Officer of Daraunda, Surya Pratap Singh, outlined the local's claim about the bridge which was constructed in 1991. He also said that the bridge was built with the contributions of Maharajganj MLA, Uma Shankar Singh.

The sub-divisional magistrate of Maharajganj, Anil Kumar, confirmed that the 20-foot-long brick structure was funded through the MLA's local area development fund. He noted that further action would be taken based on the investigation report.
Araria Bridge Collapse Incident
As per the report of TOI, this incident occurred after the collapse of a newly constructed approximately 180 meters long bridge, in the Araria district on Tuesday. The Rural Works Department has launched departmental action against the officials responsible for the Araria bridge collapse.
Bihar has faced many mishaps involving bridges of different sizes constructed over rivers and other water bodies. Although these incidents have not unfolded any casualties, but still people have concerns about the quality of public works at different places in the state.
