UP-Gonda, Kannauj & Azamgarh: Massive Fake Sweets Seized Ahead Of Festivals

Authorities in Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan have carried out a major crackdown on adulterated sweets ahead of Diwali and other upcoming festivals. In Azamgarh, a joint operation by the police and Food Safety Department led to the seizure of around 18 quintals of fake sweets, including barfi, mawa, paneer, and palm oil. Officials warned that during festival seasons, food adulterators often become active, putting public health at risk. Similar actions were reported in Gonda and Kannauj, where adulterated sweets were disposed of in drains to prevent consumption, while in Tonk, Rajasthan, fake sweets and mawa were confiscated. The authorities emphasized their commitment to ensuring consumer safety and warned traders against selling adulterated food items during festive times. These operations are part of a broader effort to protect citizens’ health and maintain quality standards in food markets ahead of major celebrations.
