Opposition Uproar in Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha Over Voter List Revision and Energy Sector Debate

As proceedings began in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, a storm of protests erupted from the Opposition benches, centered on two key issues: the controversial voter list revision in Bihar and broader debates on clean energy and gas distribution across India. While ministers highlighted significant progress in the energy sector—such as a jump from 14 crore LPG connections in 2014 to over 33 crore now—the Opposition shifted focus to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list. Leaders from multiple parties questioned the timing, documentation criteria, and the potential exclusion of marginalized communities from the electoral rolls. One MP emphasized that every Bihari must retain their name on the voter list and warned against politicizing the Election Commission's role. He added that the right to vote—enshrined by Dr. Ambedkar—must be protected, especially for the poor and socially disadvantaged.Interestingly, even NDA allies like the JD(U) raised concerns, suggesting a widening rift within the ruling coalition. The Speaker allowed members from all parties to voice their views, calling for unity on voter rights. The session remains tense, with protests likely to continue in the coming days as opposition parties demand a detailed debate on the SIR process.
