Manmohan Singh Last Rites: 'Don’t Delay...' Sudip Bandyopadhyay Reacts to Memorial Controversy
The last rites of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will be conducted with state honors at 11:45 AM on Saturday at the Nigambodh Ghat, as announced by the Ministry of Home Affairs on Friday. Manmohan Singh passed away at the age of 92 on Thursday night at AIIMS. The Home Ministry confirmed that the government has decided to perform his last rites with full state honors. The Ministry of Defence has been requested to ensure that his last rites are conducted with military honors. Before this, his mortal remains will be kept at the Congress office for public viewing. Additionally, the Ministry of Home Affairs stated that the government will allocate a memorial site for Manmohan Singh, a request which was made by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, who had contacted Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah seeking a memorial for the former PM. Following a Cabinet meeting, Amit Shah informed Kharge and Manmohan Singh's family that the government would allocate a site for the memorial. The formation of a trust and allocation of the location are still pending.
