Delhi Elections: Congress To Focus On 14 Seats Dominated By Minorities and Dalits, Say Sources

Congress' strategy for upcoming Delhi elections includes targeting minority and Dalit-dominated seats.

The Congress party has come up with a new strategy for the upcoming assembly elections in Delhi to focus on minority and Dalit-dominated seats, according to sources.

While the ruling Aam Aadmi Party and Bharatiya Janata Party have been mainly at loggerheads over the issue of Purvanchali voters, the Congress has decided to include minority and Dalit-dominated seats also in its strategy for the polls where it seeks to make a comeback.

The assembly constituencies that will have a special focus of the Congress include Okhla, Seelampur, Babarpur, Mustafabad, Matia Mahal, Ballimaran, Chandani Chowk, Kastubanagar, Badli, New Delhi, Nangloi Jat, Chhatarpur, and Patparganj, as per the sources.

Congress top guns including Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, and Mallikarjun Kharge will hold road shows and rallies in these areas during the last phase of the campaign.

In a bid to woo the Purvanchali voters who have become the hotbed in the buildup to the upcoming polls, the Congress on Friday announced it will create a separate ministry and budget for Poorvanchalis in the national capital if the party is elected to power.

Another crucial vote bank, women voters have been promised a monthly financial aid of Rs 2,500 under the proposed ‘Pyaari Didi Yojana’ by the party in its manifesto.

The elections to the 70-member Delhi Legislative Assembly will be held on February 5 and the votes will be counted on February 8.
