Hyderabad Car Accident: One died and two others suffered injuries after a speeding car ran over them while they were sleeping on the pavements near Basavatarakam Indo-American Cancer Hospital in the early hours on Saturday.

The incident took place at 4 AM, as per a report on Telangana Today. The Banjara Hills police have registered a case and started the investigation.

The car driver is currently on the run. Efforts are being made to identify the injured persons.

The police are combing CCTV footage from nearby locations.

Last month, in Pune, a similar mishap claimed the lives of two toddlers and a man when a speeding dumper plowed into nine pavement dwellers. The accident occurred around 1 AM near Kesnand Phata in Wagholi when a private company's dumper veered off the road onto the footpath, crushing labourers sleeping in makeshift shanties. According to preliminary investigations, the dumper driver, allegedly intoxicated, lost control of the vehicle, which reportedly belonged to Buildwell Enterprises, while traveling from Pune to Wagholi, as reported by The Free Press Journal.

In a similar incident last year, three people lost their lives, and two others were critically injured when a truck allegedly ran over five individuals sleeping on a footpath in northeast Delhi’s Shastri Park area during the early hours. The truck driver fled the scene after driving a short distance.

The injured, identified as 35-year-old Mustaq and 36-year-old Kamlesh, were rushed to Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital after police received a PCR call at 5:30 a.m, reported ETV Bharat. The call reported that a truck traveling from Seelampur to Lohe Ki Bridge had struck the victims sleeping on the divider. Three were declared 'brought dead' upon arrival. Eyewitnesses stated the accident occurred near Shastri Park's watermelon market.
