For Congress, It is about prestige as Rahul Gandhi is contesting from the Rae Bareli Lok Sabha Constituency. Voting in Rae Bareli Lok Sabha seat will be held on 20 May. When Sonia Gandhi opted for the Rajya Sabha route earlier this year as a step towards her long standing desire to quit active politics, it was assumed that Priyanka Gandhi Vadra would be a shoo-in for Raebareli, having nursed the constituency all along. Altough later Rahul Gandhi's name was announced by Congress after lots of wait and drama. Among the Congress's safest seats anywhere in the country is Rae Bareli. Out of the 20 elections this seat has witnessed so far, the Congress has won 17. The Rae Bareli seat is also seeped in historical significance and has the distinction of being the only parliamentary constituency where a sitting Prime Minister suffered defeat.
