JPC Recommends Key Amendments in Waqf Bill, Proposes New Clause on Property Disputes

The Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on the Waqf Amendment Bill has recommended significant changes in its exclusive report, suggesting key modifications to the existing Waqf Act. According to sources, the committee has proposed adding a new clause stating that if a religious site is not disputed, it will be considered Waqf property. Additionally, it has recommended granting investigation rights to officials ranked above the Collector. The report also suggests amending Section 3C (1), (2), (3), and (4) to refine the legal framework governing Waqf properties. These changes aim to enhance transparency and streamline the process of determining Waqf ownership in cases of religious property disputes. This development comes amid growing debates over Waqf land ownership and management, with stakeholders demanding clearer regulations. The proposed amendments seek to bring more accountability to the system and ensure that Waqf properties are legally safeguarded. The report is now expected to be reviewed by the concerned authorities before any further action is taken.
