Janhit: Who Is Really Responsible for India’s Partition? New NCERT Texts Explain | ABP NEWS
History often holds lessons for the future, but political narratives tend to interpret it in different ways. Recently, a debate has arisen around two NCERT modules discussing the Partition of India in 1947. The modules suggest that responsibility for the Partition lies not only with Mohammad Ali Jinnah but also with Lord Mountbatten and the Congress Party. The controversy intensified as the BJP praised RSS from the Red Fort on Independence Day, while Congress reacted strongly, accusing RSS and its ideological founders like Shyama Prasad Mukherjee and Veer Savarkar of playing a villainous role in the Partition. Congress leaders went further to label RSS as similar to Taliban, raising tensions. The NCERT modules clarify that the Partition was not the act of a single person but the outcome of multiple forces: Jinnah demanding division, Congress agreeing under pressure, and Mountbatten implementing it. This educational attempt to provide a nuanced view upset political camps, with each party accusing the other of rewriting history for political gains. Ultimately, history is often shaped by politics, with varying interpretations depending on perspective. The public is left to decide which narrative they trust more.
