Haryana Shock: ASI Sandeep Lathar’s Suicide Raises Questions After IPS Puran Kumar’s Death, Postmortem Underway

Haryana is reeling from consecutive tragedies in its police force as the suicides of IPS officer Puran Kumar and ASI Sandeep Lathar have raised serious questions about administrative and systemic issues. After Puran Kumar’s death, which reportedly involved him confronting around 15 officers before taking his life, the state has been in turmoil. Following Lathar’s suicide, his family has now consented to a postmortem, which has begun at PGI, with a specialized doctors’ panel conducting the examination under executive magistrate supervision. Ballistic experts and video documentation are included to ensure transparency. The cremation is scheduled for this evening. The incidents have sparked intense political and bureaucratic stir in Haryana, especially after DGP Shatrujeet Kapoor was placed on leave and a committee of Dalit organizations engaged in discussions with the family. The family had demanded the arrest of certain officials from Rohtak, including SP Narendra Bicharniya. Authorities in Chandigarh have assured them of a fair and impartial investigation. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini is expected to visit ASI Lathar’s residence, where stringent security protocols have been put in place. The family insists that the postmortem will proceed only once justice is ensured. These consecutive incidents have exposed deep administrative concerns, prompting a statewide debate on accountability and police welfare.
