Former Ukrainian PM Comments on PM Modi's Visit, Calls It Historically Significant Amid Russia-Ukraine War
Yulia Volodymyrivna Tymoshenko is a Ukrainian politician, who served as Prime Minister of Ukraine in 2005, and again from 2007 until 2010; the first and only woman in Ukraine to hold that position. When Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Russia, he faced criticism. Western countries, including Ukraine, stated that it was not appropriate for the leader of the world's largest democracy to visit Russia, especially considering the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war. It's important to note that Russia has traditionally been a close friend of India. Now, by visiting Ukraine, PM Modi aims to balance relations with both Kyiv and Western nations. India has not condemned Russia for the Ukraine war so far. India does not want to alienate Russia, while also maintaining good relations with Western countries. PM Modi has previously advocated for peace in Ukraine on several occasions. His visit is aimed at promoting peace in the region. This is why, before heading to Ukraine, PM Modi stated that as a friend and partner of Ukraine, India hopes for peace and stability to return to the region soon. He also mentioned that he will discuss peaceful solutions to the Ukraine conflict with President Zelensky.
