Flash Flood in Jammu’s Tawi River: Man Trapped Midstream as Water Levels Surge | ABP NEWS

A tense situation unfolded in Jammu as a man became trapped in the middle of the Tawi River after a sudden rise in water levels due to heavy rainfall in surrounding hilly areas. The incident occurred near the bridge connecting Old and New Jammu, where the river, typically dry, saw a flash flood triggered by continuous rains in regions like Udhampur and Ramban. The man had ventured into the riverbed to collect sand and gravel—common practice in the area. However, unexpected flooding from upstream turned the dry river into a dangerous torrent. Clinging to a rope attached to a bridge pillar, the man has remained stuck for over an hour, surrounded by powerful currents. Eyewitnesses said there was no dam release involved; the muddy water is runoff from hilly rainfalls. Local people say he was with horses and others who managed to escape, but he was left stranded. Despite repeated alerts, no rescue or police teams had reached the site as of reporting time. Locals and ABP News reporters were first on the scene, showing real-time visuals of the ongoing crisis. Authorities are being urged to act swiftly before conditions worsen.
