Devastating Flash Floods in Uttarkashi: Rescue Operations Hampered by Damaged Roads and Bridges | ABP NEWS

Uttarkashi has witnessed a devastating natural disaster after a sudden cloudburst triggered flash floods and landslides, causing massive destruction in the region. The worst-affected area is Dharali village, where a 30-second deluge swept away roads, bridges, and even multi-story buildings, leaving behind a landscape filled with mud and debris. Over 190 people have been rescued so far, but rescue operations are severely challenged by broken roads and damaged bridges, slowing relief efforts. The situation remains critical, with continuous rainfall hampering progress and turning the entire region into a muddy swamp. The Gangotri National Highway has been severely damaged at multiple points, trapping many residents in Bhattwari. Rescue teams from the army, ITBP, NDRF, and SDRF are actively involved in evacuation efforts, often relying on helicopters to airlift stranded people. Tragically, five deaths have been reported, and nine army personnel remain missing following the flood. Uttarakhand's Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami is closely monitoring the situation, with relief camps set up to care for displaced residents. The weather department has issued red alerts for heavy rainfall in the region, warning that the crisis may continue.
