Clashes Break Out During Kawad Yatra As Claims Of Conspiracy, Violence, And Political Failure Emerge
The sacred Kawad Yatra, a symbol of deep devotion to Lord Shiva, has been marred by violence and controversy this year. As millions of devotees march through northern India, especially Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, disturbing clashes, vandalism, and scuffles have emerged, raising pressing questions on law and order.Political tempers flared when opposition leaders accused the BJP led Uttar Pradesh government of turning a blind eye to hooliganism allegedly being carried out under the garb of devotion. Specific incidents from Mirzapur, Haridwar, and elsewhere showed devotees attacking civilians and even law enforcement, reportedly over minor provocations such as someone accidentally touching their kawad. The government, meanwhile, maintains that these are isolated incidents and action is being taken. CM Yogi Adityanath has appealed for peace and advised devotees to report, not retaliate. However, comparisons with past religious events and communal gatherings have also sparked debate, with critics alleging selective strictness and bias.Mahants and religious leaders have urged kawadiyas to remain calm, reminding them that true bhakti lies in restraint. As the yatra continues until July 23, the spotlight remains on whether faith can prevail over fury and if the state will ensure peace for all.
