Breaking News: PM Narendra Modi to Skip UN General Assembly; S. Jaishankar to Represent India | ABP NEWS

In a major update, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will not attend the upcoming United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session scheduled for September 23 in New York. Instead, India’s External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar will represent the country at the UNGA. This is not unusual, as the Prime Minister does not attend every year. Attendance often depends on the Prime Minister’s schedule and the political circumstances at the time. Political analysts explain that Modi has visited the UNGA intermittently, sometimes once every two or three years, based on priorities and availability. While India has booked its speaking slot at the UNGA, it is common for either the Prime Minister, the President, or the External Affairs Minister to participate depending on the situation. Dr. Jaishankar has represented India at the UNGA several times in the past when the Prime Minister was unavailable. This decision aligns with the normal practice and should not be seen as unusual or a sign of disengagement. The government continues to emphasize India’s active participation in global affairs, with Dr. Jaishankar expected to deliver India’s voice on the international stage this year.
