A spell of heavy rainfall in Gurugram, Haryana, late Tuesday evening exposed serious flaws in the city's drainage and infrastructure. Key areas including the upscale Sohna Road and Shaheed Major Vikas Yadav Marg near Civil Lines were submerged under water. Waterlogging caused massive traffic jams and left pedestrians stranded. In one alarming incident, a beer-laden truck toppled over after the Southern Peripheral Road caved in due to ongoing sewer work. The soil erosion beneath the surface, worsened by the rain, caused the truck to fall into a massive pit. The road was filled with mud and the sewer below had been left uncovered. Videos and images show vehicles — from two-wheelers to four-wheelers — struggling through waist-deep water. Pedestrians had no space to walk as footpaths were submerged. Several vehicles also broke down after water entered their engines. Meanwhile, China is also reeling under a similar crisis. Heavy rains have caused massive flooding and landslides in provinces like Chongqing, Jiangxi, and Hunan. Entire regions are underwater, with emergency rescue operations underway. The overflowing rivers and relentless rain have sparked widespread fear. The Indian Meteorological Department has warned of continued rainfall in the region, raising concerns of worsening conditions.
