West Bengal BJP called a 12-hour Bangla bandh on August 28 against the police action taken on students demonstrating against the Kolkata doctor's rape and murder, aiming to reach the West Bengal state secretariat, Nabanna, as part of their Nabanna Abhijan. The protest march turned chaotic in Kolkata and adjacent Howrah as hundreds gathered to demand justice for the RG Kar Hospital victim and resignation of CM Mamata Banerjee. Large-scale violence ensued on the streets of Kolkata and Howrah on Tuesday afternoon after protestors clashed with the police at multiple stoppage points.
