Beware: Life-Threatening Diseases Mosquitoes Can Spread | Health Live

Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) is a rare but deadly infection transmitted through mosquito bites, with reported cases in the Hudson Valley and surrounding areas. The CDC notes that 30% of those infected die, and survivors often face lifelong neurological issues. Symptoms can appear within two to ten days and include high fever, chills, joint pain, and confusion. EEE has no vaccine or treatment, making prevention crucial. To protect yourself, wear protective clothing, use mosquito repellent, and avoid mosquito bites. The disease, primarily affecting those over 50 and under 15, is most prevalent in summer and is contracted by mosquitoes feeding on infected birds. Severe cases can lead to brain damage, paralysis, and coma.
