Maharashtra Elections 2024: Congress Takes Strong Action, Expels 28 Rebel Candidates
Voting for all 288 Assembly seats in Maharashtra is set to take place in a single phase on November 20. Ahead of this, the Congress party, part of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance, has taken strong action against rebel candidates. On Sunday, the Maharashtra Congress unit suspended 28 rebel candidates for six years due to "anti-party" activities. These candidates are contesting against the official MVA nominees in 22 constituencies. Among the notable leaders suspended are former minister Rajendra Mulak (Ramtek constituency), Yajnavalkya Jichkar (Katol), Kamal Vyavhare (Kasba), Manoj Shinde (Kopri Pachpakhadi), and Aaba Bagul (Parvati). The Congress announced this decision following instructions from AICC in-charge Ramesh Chennithala. Additional names of expelled rebels include Shyamkant Saner (Sindkheda), Rajendra Thakur (Shrivardhan), Aaba Bagul (Parvati), Manish Anand (Shivajinagar), Suresh Kumar Jethliya and Kalyan Borade (Partur), Chandrapal Choukase (Ramtek), and several others. The Maharashtra Assembly election of 2024 is expected to be a tough contest between the Mahayuti (BJP-led alliance) and the MVA. Voting is scheduled for November 20, with results announced on November 23.
