Man Runs Away Carrying Wife On Back During Divorce Hearing In China. This Happened Next

The couple, married for 20 years, has two sons and a daughter. The woman said their relationship had "completely broken down".

In a dramatic turn of events during a divorce case proceeding inside a courtroom in China, an "emotional" man ran away carrying his wife on his back. The woman, named Chen, had filed for divorce accusing her husband Li of domestic violence, The South China Morning Post reported.

The couple, married for 20 years, has two sons and a daughter. The woman said their relationship had "completely broken down" as Li became violent with her when he was drunk.

The court did not grant the divorce because they claimed that the couple still had a "deep emotional bond" and suggested that reconciliation was still possible, the reported added. As Chen appealed the case, the second trial began. During the trial, Li became emotionally unstable, lifted Chen off the floor and ran out of the courtroom while carrying her on his back. Chen began to scream out of fear.

Man Apologised For 'Excessive Actions'

A few days later, Li wrote a letter of apology, acknowledging his "excessive actions", the report added. He promised not to repeat such behaviour.

"In my emotional agitation, I mistakenly thought I was about to divorce the appellant, so I carried her out of the courtroom, ignoring the instructions of the judges and court officers who tried to stop my extreme actions," he wrote.

"I now realise the seriousness of my mistake and its negative impact. I guarantee that I will never repeat this mistake in the future," Li added. Ultimately, under court mediation, the couple did not divorce. Chen agreed to give Li another chance to rebuild their relationship.

According to the All-China Women's Federation, 30 per cent of married women in the country are reported to have experienced domestic violence. Additionally, 60 per cent of the women commit suicide each year because of domestic violence, the report added.
