Telangana Reports 17% Rise In Crimes Against Women: NCRB Report

Hyderabad: The crime rate in Telangana was up in 2021 compared to 2020, a report released by National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) on Sunday revealed. According to the report, the number of crimes against women increased from 17,791 in 2020 to 20,865 in 2021, a 17.27 per cent rise.
A total of 47 cybercrimes targeting women were registered, 14 publishing or transmitting sexually explicit material, and 33 cases of blackmailing and morphing were reported. According to the report, as many as 1,835 child rape cases, 817 sexual assaults on children, and 40 sexual harassment cases were reported across the state.
Notably, 52,430 cybercrime cases have been registered across the country, of which more than 10,000 cases are in Telangana. 40 per cent of cybercrime cases were recorded in Telangana, followed by Uttar Pradesh with 8,829 cases.

According to the NCRB, Telangana registered 1,46,131 cases under the IPC, compared to 1,35,885 cases in 2020 and 1,18,338 cases in 2019. In the state, 1,952 criminal cases against elderly citizens were reported, a rise from 1,575 incidents in 2020 and 1,523 cases in 2019.
The state also ranked first in human trafficking cases. A total of 123 human trafficking cases were registered, and 221 victims were rescued from different places across the state.
The report said that Telangana registered 2,760 kidnaps and eight kidnaps for ransom cases apart from 823 rape cases and 36 attempts to rape cases in 2021.
Under Section 304 of the IPC, over 7,254 cases of negligence causing death were reported. In 2021, there were around 1,026 murders, 1,437 attempted murders, and 428 incidents of culpable homicide not amounting to death reported.
