Here Are The Top Most Hacked Passwords Of 2022. 'Bigbasket' Becomes The 4th Worst Password

The most commonly used password in India in 2022 was "password".

The worst password list of the year is out and according to proprietary password manager NordPass, the most commonly used password in India was "password". Nord Security's password managing arm also shared a list of the top 200 common passwords.

The second most commonly used password in India is 123456, followed by 12345678. Quite strangely, the fourth most used password in India is "bigbasket". According to NordPass, the password "password" can be cracked in under a second while the second and third-most used passwords can also be cracked in under a second. Interestingly, the password bigbasket can be cracked in five minutes.

The high usage of the password bigbasket shows a shift from the traditional norm of using 12345 as a password and it was used more than 75,000 times.

"Yes, it’s that time of the year again when you get a glimpse into the Top 200 Most Common Passwords. The 2022 report is here and it even has a special pop culture edition 🔥 ," NordPass tweeted.

"Here are the top 200 most common passwords in 2022. We learned that despite growing cybersecurity awareness, old habits die hard. The research shows that people still use weak passwords to protect their accounts. This year, we looked at how culture impacts passwords," NordPass said in a statement.

The other worst password choices that Indians made in 2022 included 123456789 at the fifth spot, followed by pass@123 and 1234567890. All these passwords can be cracked by hackers in 1-2 seconds.

The most commonly used password for Indians in the eighth place was “anmol123”, which was used more than 10,000 times. The time required to crack this password was 17 minutes. Password "anmol123” was the strongest password in the top 10 list by a long stretch. The ninth and tenth most used passwords in the country this year were abcd1234 and googledummy.
