Truecaller Just Gave Your SMS Inbox A Brain — And It’s AI-Powered

Truecaller's latest update is now live in India and 30 other markets, and it brings artificial intelligence right into your SMS inbox.

If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed by a barrage of SMS messages — some urgent, most irrelevant — you’re not alone. From OTPs and bank alerts to spam and random promos, sifting through your inbox can be a headache. But Truecaller, best known for tackling spam calls, is now taking on messy message threads with an intelligent new feature: AI-powered Message IDs.

The latest update, now live in India and 30 other markets, brings artificial intelligence right into your SMS inbox. Powered by Large Language Models (LLMs), Message IDs work directly on your device, identifying and summarising crucial information without sending any data to external servers. That means your messages stay private, while the important bits rise to the top.

AI That Speaks Your Language

The feature doesn’t discriminate based on geography or language. Whether your messages are in Hindi, Spanish, Swahili, or any other language, the tool is built to recognise and process them effectively. And the best part? It’s not limited to paying users. The same AI magic is available to both premium and free users alike.

All it takes is granting Truecaller permission to read your SMS and display content over other apps. Once enabled, the app starts delivering real-time summaries and highlights — no digging required. You’ll get notified of vital details like delivery updates, flight changes, or payment reminders without having to scroll through dozens of messages.

John Joseph, Product Director, Insights at Truecaller, explains: “With the integration of AI in Message IDs for both premium and non-premium users, we’re providing people with a smarter, more secure way to manage their important SMS messages. Our mission is to make communication safer and more efficient, and this innovation represents the next step in our journey.”

Verified Green Ticks You Can Trust

Amid the growing concern over phishing texts and scam attempts, Truecaller has added a reassuring layer to the experience. Messages from verified businesses will now carry a green tick, clearly marking them as legitimate. So if you see a delivery update with that verified seal, you know it’s real.

This new functionality doesn’t stop at standard transaction messages either. Even less obvious updates — like appointment confirmations or service notifications — can be recognised and flagged as important by the AI engine. Truecaller isn’t just helping you manage what you expect; it’s helping you stay on top of everything that matters.

Reinventing the Way We Read Messages

With Message IDs, Truecaller is not just evolving as an app — it’s redefining the role of SMS in your digital life. What was once a chaotic inbox of missed opportunities can now become a streamlined feed of actionable alerts.

By bringing AI to the heart of messaging, Truecaller is setting a new standard for communication clarity — one message at a time.
