Instagram Threads Gets Hashtags With A Twist
The function of tags on Instagram Threads aligns with that of hashtags.
Instagram Threads, the rival of to X (formerly Twitter) is getting a new feature named called 'Tags'. Tags will function like hashtags, as announced by Instagram head, Adam Mosseri. Tags are a distinctive take on hashtags, and are now available globally on Threads. After testing the tag feature in Australia last month, the company is now expanding its availability worldwide.
Tags categorise and group similar posts under the same topic. Despite the similarity to hashtags, certain functionalities of Instagram Threads Tags set them apart. This means, Tags on Threads are different and come with a twist. Mosseri made the announcement via a Threads post and also invited feedback.
How Do Tags Differ From Hashtags?
Tags operate differently compared to traditional hashtags found on platforms like X (formerly Twitter). When creating a post on Threads, you begin a tag by tapping the # symbol and typing your chosen topic. Unlike hashtags, which are limited to single words, Threads' Tags permit users to input complete phrases (including spaces) and incorporate special characters, as clarified by Mosseri.
In addition to this, according to the official Threads post, a notable distinction between Instagram Threads Tags and hashtags is evident. When adding tags, you use # inline with the text, but they don't visibly appear in the published post.
The purpose of Tags on Threads aligns with that of hashtags. As per Mosseri, when sharing on Threads, tags serve as an excellent method to connect with individuals who have a shared interest in the topics you're discussing. Furthermore, for all users, they offer an effective avenue to explore their interests more profoundly.
Instead, they appear as blue text, resembling a hyperlink in the published post. Furthermore, you can also include a tag by tapping the # symbol on the new post user interface. Instagram parent Meta initially started testing tags with users in Australia last year.
