Instagram Tests Dislike Button For Comments On Posts & Reels, Here's What We Know

Instagram spokesperson Christine Pai, in a statement, revealed that the dislike feature is currently “being tested with a small group of people.”

A new feature has caught the attention of Instagram users—some have recently noticed a 'dislike' button appearing under comments on posts and Reels. On Threads, Instagram head Adam Mosseri confirmed that the platform is actively testing this new addition.

The dislike button will be available on comments under both Feed posts and Reels but won’t publicly display the number of downvotes. Instead, Instagram will use the total dislikes to help determine comment ranking.

Private Feedback, No Public Count

Mosseri described the feature as a tool that “gives people a private way to signal that they don’t feel good about that particular comment” and suggested it may “help make comments more friendly on Instagram.” This approach mirrors YouTube’s move in 2021 when it removed public dislike counts on videos.

Instagram spokesperson Christine Pai, in a statement to The Verge, revealed that the dislike feature is currently “being tested with a small group of people.” However, Meta has not disclosed how long the testing phase will last or if the feature will be expanded to more users soon.
