Google One Kills VPN Service: Here's What We Know So Far
Google said that they are now “discontinuing the VPN feature as [they] found people simply weren’t using it.”
Tech giant Google has suffered one more defeat with one more service of it biting the dust soon. Google has announced that the Google One VPN service will soon be shut down as "people simply weren't using it." Google has a history of killing off products from time to time, which happens more when it notices not many people are using it and the same now appears to be true for the One VPN service as well.
Google One introduced this VPN service back in October 2020 and son it became available on all plans and platforms. It was originally projected to the people as something that provides an “extra layer of online protection for your Android phone” and “peace of mind that your data is safe."
Currently, the VPN service is available in the Google One apps for Android and iOS. Initially, after its launch, the VPN service required a payment of $9.99 per month Premium plan, however, soon in March 2023, it was slashed to $1.99 per month.

Shutting This Service Will Let The Team Refocus
Google told 9to5Google that they are now “discontinuing the VPN feature as [they] found people simply weren’t using it.” The company added that the deprecation will let the team “refocus” and “support more in-demand features with Google One.”
Earlier this year, Google One crossed the milestone of 100 million subscribers and the CEO, Sundar Pichai, teased it as a future growth area which has been driven by AI.
Google One VPN will be out of service in the next few months, but no specific timeline has been provided as of now. Existing users of Google One VPN will be directed to third-party VPN alternatives.
On the other hand, no changes have been made to the free Pixel VPN which was introduced with the Pixel 7 series in 2022.
