Google I/O 2023: Sundar Pichai Opens Up ChatGPT-Rival Bard AI To 180 Countries Including India

Powered by Google's latest LLM, PaLM 2, Bard has expanded its language support to include Japanese and Korean, with plans for further expansion to encompass 40 additional languages.

CEO Sundar Pichai made a significant announcement at the highly anticipated Google I/O 2023 event, revealing that Google's chatbot, Bard, will now be accessible in more than 180 countries. In a move aimed at competing with OpenAI's ChatGPT, Google has removed the waitlist requirement, allowing users worldwide to gain immediate access to Bard. During the Google I/O event, held at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California, Pichai took the stage to share major updates and advancements in the field of artificial intelligence (AI).

Google stated in a blog post, "As we continue to enhance Bard with new features and improvements, we want to ensure that more people can experience it and provide us with their valuable feedback. Therefore, we are excited to announce the removal of the waitlist, making Bard available in over 180 countries and territories, with more to come."

Google emphasised its commitment to maintaining quality standards and incorporating local nuances while adhering to AI principles, as large language models (LLMs) are still in their early stages of development.

Powered by Google's latest LLM, PaLM 2, Bard has expanded its language support to include Japanese and Korean, with plans for further expansion to encompass 40 additional languages. Thanks to the capabilities of the PaLM 2 language model, Bard can now perform coding and debugging tasks in more than 20 programming languages, as well as handle advanced math and reasoning.

Previously, access to Bard was limited to users in the United States and the United Kingdom through a waitlist. It is important to note that Bard is currently in the testing phase, and users are advised to verify the accuracy of its responses, as it is considered an experimental chatbot.

Google I/O is an annual developer conference where Google showcases its latest products, software upgrades, and technological advancements. The name "I/O" represents the input/output concept, highlighting Google's dedication to innovation in an open environment.
