iPhone 15, OnePlus 11 RT, More: Top Smartphone Launches This Month
Oppo Find X6 Pro, Honor 90, and more to look out for.
While the smartphone market seldom stays quiet, there are some months every year when it sends the tech world into a frenzy. September has had that trend tied to its fate for some time now. That is mostly because Apple has got its grip on September — it generally holds its annual iPhone launch during the month. While the headlines may be only talking of the iPhones, there are a number of other phones making their way to the tech world this month as well.
So if you are thinking of getting yourself a new phone, here are six of the most interesting phones (including the iPhones) that are expected to arrive at the tech party in the coming month.
It should be noted that while some phones will be brand-new launches, some others have already been unveiled in certain regions and are expected to turn up global/Indian market this month.
iPhone 15 Series: The Official September Superstars
The month of September is basically synonymous with new iPhones and this year is no different. Apple recently announced that it will be hosting its annual launch event on September 12 and there are no points for guessing that the new generation of iPhones will be launched at this event. As always, Apple officially has not given any information about the new iPhones, but judging by the way it has expanded its portfolio in the last few years, one can expect to see at least four new generation iPhones– the iPhone 15, the iPhone 15 Pro, the iPhone 15 Pro Max and the successor of the iPhone 14 Plus that made its debut last year, the iPhone 15 Plus (which some folks say will be called the Ultra).
If rumours are to be believed, this time around, although the iPhones will not get a radical design overhaul (we expect straight sides and similar display sizes), Apple will be ditching the conventional notch altogether and all the models in the iPhone 15 line up will come with the Dynamic Island notch. Apple is also reportedly ditching the Lightning port and replacing it with a USB Type C port, and with it is expected faster charging (although still with no brick in the box). A new chipset will also be introduced on the iPhones but whether all the iPhones will run on it still remains a mystery. The Pro bros are also expected to get a periscope sensor on the back, helping them stand out by zooming in more. Also on the anvil are the usual improvements - better battery life, new camera features, along with privacy and software smarts. We expect Apple to call it “the best iPhone yet” and while that may be true, it is also likely that the iPhone 15 series will also be the most expensive yet.
OnePlus 11 RT 5G: Power-Packed OnePlus
OnePlus is set to launch the OnePlus 11 RT in September and if leaks and rumours are to be believed, it will be a very power-packed smartphone. What's more, as it is from the R series, it is not expected to be as premium priced as the top-end flagships either. In best OnePlus tradition, the device is expected to come with an upgraded processor, and while some say it will be a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor (up from the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 on the OnePlus 11R), there are some who feel OnePlus might bring an entirely new chip (perhaps even from MediaTek) to the table.
OnePlus has never been one to shy away from adding ample RAM and storage and the 11 RT could pack in plenty as well, right up to 16GB+512GB. The phone is also expected to come with a triple camera set up on the back with a 50-megapixel main sensor with OIS paired with a 16-megapixel ultrawide and a 5-megapixel macro sensor, with the selfie sensor being a 16-megapixel one, although the cameras will not have the Hasselblad branding that the OnePlus 11 has. The OnePlus 11RT is believed to bring a 6.5-inch AMOLED full-HD+ display to the table with 120Hz refresh rate, a 5,000mAh battery, with a charging speed of 120W. The interesting part is going to be its price — the R range of OnePlus has always been more affordable than its premium flagships. Rumour says that the phone might be priced below Rs 50,000, in which case it could unsettle a lot of players.
Oppo Find X6 Pro 5G: Looking For Great Specs? Find 'Em Here
Another power-packed beast expected in the market in September is the Oppo Find X6 Pro. Released in China in March of this year, the phone comes with flagship-level specs, performance and price.
The Oppo Find X6 Pro is powered by Qualcomm’s smartphone chipset royalty — the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Processor, paired with up to 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. The phone also features a 6.82-inch AMOLED display with 120Hz refresh rate.
There has been a lot of talk about the triple camera set-up on the device, which comes with legendary Hasselblad support and branding. The Find X6 Pro comes with three 50-megapixel sensors on its back, a main sensor with OIS, an ultrawide sensor, and a third telephoto with periscope lens and OIS, facilitating zoom-in without compromised quality. Selfies will be handled by a 32-megapixel sensor. The phone runs on a 5,000mAh battery, with a very fast 100 W charging support of 100 W and comes with dust and water resistance.
And it is a treat for the eyes too, with a very large and distinct camera unit on the back. The phone is expected to be priced in the vicinity of Rs. 70,000, which would make it a contender in the premium price segment.
Honor 90 5G: An Honor-able Mid-Segment Monster
September is not just about high-end smartphones. The month will also welcome some smartphones that will not burn a very deep hole in your pocket. One of these is the Honor 90. Honor is all set to start a new inning in the Indian phone market with the launch of the Honor 90, which was released in other markets in June. Expected to be priced around Rs 30,000, placing it in the premium mid-segment, the phone will feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 processor with up to 12GB RAM, and will bring a 6.7-inch full-HD+ AMOLED display with 120 Hz refresh rate.
But the feature that has been making headlines is the camera muscle on the phone. The Honor 90 comes with a triple camera setup on the back with a massive 200-megapixel main sensor, a 12-megapixel ultrawide and a 2-megapixel depth sensor. The selfie camera is a biggie too — a 50-megapixel affair. That makes it one of the most formidable camera phones in the segment on paper at least.
The phone will feature a 5,000mAh battery with 66 W fast charging support and will run on Android 13 out of the box with MagicUI on top. Will those cameras enable Honor to rattle the cages of the Redmi Note and the OnePlus Nord in the mid-segment?
Moto G54 5G: Hello, Budget Moto G
Another Moto expected this September is the Moto G54. The phone is perhaps the most affordable on this list, being a budget/lower mid-segment device. That said, it does come with some impressive specs, including up to 12GB RAM, which is generally not seen in this segment. The phone will be powered by MediaTek Dimensity 7020 chipset and will feature a 6.5-inch full-HD+ LCD display with 120 HZ refresh rate, which might disappoint the AMOLED-loving crowd, although its refresh rate is impressive. It will also feature a massive 6,000mAh battery with support for 30W charging.
There will be a dual camera on the back of the phone with a 50-megapixel main sensor with an 8-megapixel ultrawide, and a 16-megapixel sensor on the front for selfies. It will come with Motorola's trademark stock Android, Android 13 out of the box. The specs point to a price in the vicinity of Rs 10,000 - Rs 12,000, which would make this the G for those who want 5G on a budget with stock Android.
