With Apple preparing to launch its Mac with M2 chips, the testing of forthcoming M3 chipset is also underway. Apple is likely to unveil newer Macs with the upcoming M3 chip by the end of this year, according to Mark Gurman of Bloomberg News. This tip about MacBooks comes ahead of the upcoming Apple WWDC 2023 annual conference. According to Gurman, the tech giant is likely to launch the next-generation Macs with the new M3 chip before the year ends.

The Cupertino, California-based tech giant is testing an unreleased chip with a 12-core CPU, 18-core GPU, and 36GB of memory, according to an App Store developer log, according to Gurman. He said the chip is being tested inside a future high-end MacBook Pro running the upcoming macOS 14 update, which is expected to be announced at WWDC next month.

The base-level M2 Pro chip in the 14-inch MacBook Pro sports a 10-core CPU and 16-core GPU and has 16GB of memory. This means, the upcoming M3 Pro chip would have at least two extra cores for both the CPU and GPU. To recall, the company had last updated the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro in January this year.

Apple's 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro with M2 Pro and M2 Max, which are the company's pro silicon that claims to bring more power-efficient performance and battery life to pro users. With M2 Pro and M2 Max the new MacBook Pro promises to tackle demanding tasks, like effects rendering, which is up to 6 times faster than the fastest Intel-based MacBook Pro and colour grading, which is up to 2 times faster. Apple also introduced the new Mac mini with M2 and M2 Pro at an affordable price.

Compared to the previous-generation Mac mini, M2 and M2 Pro bring a faster next-generation CPU and GPU, much higher memory bandwidth, and a more powerful media engine to Mac mini, delivering extraordinary performance and industry-leading power efficiency. Both models feature an advanced thermal system for exceptional sustained performance.
