Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, Galaxy S22+ And Galaxy S22 Launched: Price, Features And More
The Galaxy S22 Ultra has support for the S Pen which is a first for the S-series. Details about the India availability and prices are yet to be announced.
New Delhi: Samsung on Wednesday officially launched its flagship Galaxy S22 series globally. The new Galaxy S22 lineup includes three premium devices -- the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, the Samsung Galaxy S22+ and the Samsung Galaxy S22. The Galaxy S22 Ultra has support for the S Pen which is a first for the S-series. As anticipated, the Galaxy S22 Ultra brings the power of the Galaxy Note series and the pro camera capabilities of the Galaxy S series. The Galaxy S22 Ultra also brings what Samsung calls advanced Nightography and video capabilities, and battery life that lasts over a day.
“At Samsung, we constantly push ourselves to raise the bar on our most premium devices,” TM Roh, President and Head of Samsung Electronics’ MX (Mobile eXperience) Business, said in a statement.
“Galaxy S22 Ultra takes the beloved functionality of the Galaxy Note and the most celebrated aspects of the S series and merges them for a truly unique mobile experience. This is a leap forward for mobile technology, setting a new standard for what a smartphone can be.”
Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra features and prices
The price of the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra will start at $1,199 which is roughly Rs 89,700 and the smartphone can be pre-booked starting today (February 9). The Galaxy S22 Ultra is made of a metal frame that creates a mirrored effect, courtesy of the glass and haze finish. The design language has a floating layout and sharp angles, similar to that of the Galaxy Note series. The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra has been unveiled in four colour options: Phantom Black, Phantom White, Green, and Burgundy.
Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra has been launched in four storage options: 8GB/128GB, 12GB/256GB, 12GB/512GB and 12GB/1TB.
In terms of specs, the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra has a 6.8-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with QHD+ resolution topped with a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass Victus+. The Galaxy S22 Ultra is curved and it is also the brightest screen on a smartphone ever with a peak brightness of 1750 nits. There is an LTPO panel that, depending on the on-screen content, intelligently lets the display switch between 1Hz and 120Hz refresh rate.
In terms of camera specs, the ultra-premium Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra comes with a quad-cam set up led by a 108MP main sensor with f/1.8 aperture, a 12MP 120-degree ultrawide sensor with f/2.2 aperture and two 10MP telephoto sensors with 3x digital zoom and 10x optical zoom. There is a 40MP selfie camera for making video calls and taking selfies.
The Galaxy S22 Ultra arrives with two chipsets: the top-tier Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC and the Exynos 2200. Unlike the past Galaxy S series phones, this year, the India variant is rumoured to arrive with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip. In terms of software, the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra runs OneUI 4.1 based on Android 12. Other features include S Pen support, 5G network support, WiFi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, IP68-rating for both water and dust resistance and an in-display fingerprint scanner. The Galaxy S22 Ultra features a 5000 mAh battery and 45W fast charging and 15W wireless charging. Buyers would have to purchase the charger separately.
Samsung Galaxy S22+ and Galaxy S22 features and prices
Samsung also unveiled the Galaxy S22+ at the Galaxy Unpacked 2022 and the price of the Galaxy S22+ starts at $999 or roughly Rs 74,800. It has been unveiled in two storage variants: 8GB/128GB and 8GB/256GB. and in four colours: Pink Gold, Black, White, and Phantom Green. In terms of specs, both the Galaxy S22+ and the vanilla Galaxy S22 come with a rear triple-camera setup led by a 50MP main sensor, a 12MP ultra-wide sensor and a 10MP telephoto sensor with 3x zoom. For selfies, both the models feature a hole-punch cutout that houses a 10MP front camera.
In terms of display, the vanilla Galaxy S22 has a slightly smaller and compact 6.1-inch screen while the S22+ features a 6.6-inch Full HD+ display with a refresh rate of 120Hz. The screens have a peak brightness of 1300 nits. The smaller Samsung Galaxy S22 also comes in two storage variants: 8GB/128GB and 8GB/256GB. The price of the Samsung Galaxy S22 price starts at $799 or roughly Rs 59,800 and it comes in four colours: White, Pink Gold, Black and Phantom Green.
The Galaxy S22 features a 3700 mAh battery with 25W wired fast charging and 15W wireless charging while the Galaxy S22+ features a 4500 mAh battery with 45W wired fast charging and 15W wireless charging. Buyers would have to purchase the charger separately.
