Elon Musk Owned X Updates Privacy Policy, To Let Third-Party Collaborators Train Their AI Models On Users' Posts

Reddit struck a similar deal with Google earlier this year which allowed the tech giant to use posts on the platform to train its AI models on and improve their online search results.

Elon Musk owned X has updated its privacy policy and made the microblogging platform a more open space. The updated policies suggest that X will soon let 'third-party collaborators' to train their AI models on the posts that users will make on the Elon Musk owned platform. As per X, the updated privacy policies will come into effect on November 15. This decision comes at a time when X is facing a decline in its ad revenue, and this move is expected to help it generate more revenue.

Notably, X has said that users will have the option to opt out of this if they don't wish to allow their posts to be the training ground for AI models. X currently offers an option that allows users to opt out of sharing their data with xAI's Grok and "other business partners." However, the company notes that these partners utilise the data to "operate and enhance their products."

Other Changes In Privacy Policy

As per a report by the TechCrunch, X has also removed the paragraph that stated that it stores “profile information and content for the duration of your account.” It had also removed another paragraph which said that the company keeps “personally identifiable data we collect when you use our products and services for a maximum of 18 months.”

These clauses now stand replaced by a message that reads, “Different types of information for different periods of time, depending on how long we need to retain it in order to provide you with our products and services.”

This could imply that X may retain your information indefinitely and continue to use it in the future, even if you stop using the platform.
