Tendulkar’s Record-Breaking Legacy
Worshipped by fans as the 'God of Cricket,' Tendulkar remains one of the sport’s greatest icons. He still holds the record for the most runs in Test and One-Day Internationals (ODIs), along with a historic 100 international centuries. His remarkable career spanned over two decades, captivating fans worldwide from 1989 to 2013.
The Maharashtra-born cricketer made his Test debut in 1989 at the age of 16 and played his first ODI later that year. Across 664 international appearances, he amassed 34,357 runs at an average of 48.52. He remains the highest run-scorer in international cricket, with 100 centuries and 164 half-centuries to his name. Tendulkar was also the first cricketer to score a double century in ODIs and played a record 200 Test matches.
A crucial member of India's 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup-winning squad, Tendulkar fulfilled his long-cherished dream of lifting the trophy after making his World Cup debut in 1992. Following their meeting, Gates took to social media platform X to express his admiration for India's progress. "I had a great discussion about India’s development, the path to Viksit Bharat 2047, and exciting advancements in health, agriculture, AI, and other sectors that are creating impact today. It's impressive to see how innovation in India is driving progress locally — and globally," he shared.
PM Modi echoed Gates' sentiments, calling their interaction "excellent." He emphasized India’s dedication to harnessing technology for a sustainable future. "Always a delight to meet you, Bill Gates! Our discussions on innovation, sustainability, and the path to Viksit Bharat 2047 were enriching. India is committed to leveraging technology for a better future for all," PM Modi posted on X.
This marks Gates' third visit to India in three years, underscoring his keen interest in the country's growth and technological advancements. During his stay, he also introduced his latest book, Source Code: My Beginnings, which delves into his early life, his vision for the future, and his passion for innovation.
