Apple Users Complain Of Being Locked Out Of Their Accounts Due To ID Bug, Forced To Reset Password

A user's iPhone initially prompted him for his Apple ID password and subsequently notified him about his locked account.

Apple users are facing an issue with their Apple ID. Apparently, Apple users are being locked out of their own accounts. According to reports, the issue appears to be affecting some users who have stated that they were logged out from one or more devices and then they were prompted to change their Apple ID password. There was also a large section of Apple users that were unaffected by the bug.

As per the people who claimed that they were locked out of their accounts, resetting their Apple ID password appeared to be working and they said that after resetting, they were granted access to their accounts.

The bug was first reported by 9to5Mac which stated that the Apple ID password reset bug affected several users who then posted details of the bug on social media platforms.

Mac software developer Michael Tsai shared his encounter in a blog entry, narrating how his iPhone initially prompted him for his Apple ID password and subsequently notified him about his locked account. Although the reset procedure was complex due to having Stolen Device Protection enabled, Tsai successfully reset his password without delay using his Mac, albeit encountering a few glitches along the way.

Similarly, developer Dave Wood reported on Mastodon that he received an alert regarding his locked Apple ID. A screenshot of the notification shows that his account was locked "for security reasons," offering options to either Unlock account or Cancel. Like Tsai, Wood was instructed to wait for an hour due to having Apple's new Stolen Device Protection feature activated on his phone. Numerous other users have also shared their encounters on various platforms such as Threads, X (formerly Twitter), and Mastodon.

As of the time of writing this, there were no ongoing or recent issues reported affecting any of Apple's services, including Apple ID and iCloud Account and Sign In, according to the company's system status webpage.
