Anubrata Mondal, the leader of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), was arrested by the CBI in connection with a cattle smuggling case. On Tuesday, the Supreme Court granted him bail. Mondal was given relief by a bench of Justices Bela M. Trivedi and S. C. Sharma, who noted that he had been in jail for two years and that the matter would require time for a trial.

In the Seraikela-Kharsawan district of Jharkhand, at least eighteen coaches of the Howrah-Mumbai Mail derailed early on Tuesday, resulting in two deaths and 20 injuries. The incident happened at 3:45 AM in the South Eastern Railway's Chakradharpur Division near Barabamboo, about 80 kilometers from Jamshedpur.
