Heavy Rain Lashes Parts Of Uttar Pradesh, Railway Tracks In Barabanki Inundated — WATCH

In the last 24 hours, Lucknow has witnessed 99 mm of rainfall, which comes under the 'heavy rainfall' category. A team of the municipal corporation has been working on draining out water, the District Magistrate informed.

Following incessant heavy rain in parts of Uttar Pradesh, the railway tracks in the Barabanki region of the state got submerged. News agency ANI shared visuals from the site that showed the railway tracks being inundated with water and the locals could be seen struggling to commute on the waterlogged streets. In the past 24 hours, Lucknow alone has received 99 millimetres of rainfall, which comes under the category of 'heavy rainfall'.

The District Magistrate of Lucknow, Surya Pal Gangwar, while talking to news agency PTI about the current situation said, “In the last 24 hours, Lucknow has witnessed 99 mm rainfall, which comes under 'heavy rainfall' category. A team of the municipal corporation has been working on draining out rainfall water since this morning. I had also reviewed the water levels of river at the Gomti Barrage and accordingly directed needful actions.”

Earlier on Sunday, a nine-year-old girl drowned to death while taking a bath in a rivulet that swelled up due to the rain. A police official while talking to PTI said that the girl was identified as Divya Chauhan, a resident of Karmaha village which comes under the Gauri Bazaar police station's jurisdiction. Station House Officer (SHO) Raju Singh said that the girl had gone to take a bath in Majhna nullah on Sunday evening, however, she slipped into deep waters and drowned.

The SHO added that her body was fished out and then handed over to her family members after a post-mortem examination, reported PTI.
