Noida: Over 12,000 Challans Issued, 86 Vehicles Impounded Over Weekend

Violations include riding without helmets, driving without seat belts, triple riding and using mobile phones while driving among others.

At least 86 vehicles were impounded and 12,358 challans were issued for various traffic violations in Noida on Sunday, in a two-day crackdown over the weekend aimed at improving road safety. The special campaign was carried out on Saturday and Sunday across key areas including Rajnigandha Chowk, Sector 37, Sector 62 Roundabout, Surajpur Chowk, Pari Chowk, Dadri, and several other hotspots in Greater Noida, according to an official statement. 

A police spokesperson told news agency PTI that on Saturday, 7,495 e-challans were issued and 47 vehicles were seized. 

Among the violations were 4,630 instances of riding without helmets, 141 instances of triple riding, and 249 cases of driving without a seat belt. Other infractions included 863 vehicles parked in no-parking zones, 563 vehicles driving in the wrong direction, 216 instances of jumping red lights, 77 air pollution violations, and 186 vehicles with faulty number plates.

On Sunday, 4,952 e-challans were issued and 39 vehicles were seized, the spokesperson said.

Violations included, 3,630 instances of riding without helmets, 103 cases of driving without seat belts, 87 instances of triple riding, 19 cases of using mobile phones while driving, 431 vehicles parked in no-parking zones, 202 vehicles driving in the wrong direction and 55 cases of driving without a license. 183 other miscellaneous violations were also recorded on Sunday. 

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Anil Kumar Yadav said that the crackdown was to improve road safety and maintain smooth traffic flow. "The comprehensive enforcement action is part of the ongoing efforts by Noida Police to enhance traffic discipline and ensure safer roads for all commuters," Yadav told PTI.
