NHRC Seeks Report From UP Police Over Killings Of Atiq Ahmad, Brother Ashraf
The commission requested reports from the Director General of Police of Uttar Pradesh and the Commissioner of Police of Prayagraj within four weeks in its notice to them.
In relation to the murder of gangster-politician Atiq Ahmad and his brother Ashraf as they were being led by police in Prayagraj, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has sent a warning to the Uttar Pradesh Police, according to authorities. The commission requested reports from the Director General of Police of Uttar Pradesh and the Commissioner of Police of Prayagraj within four weeks in its notice to them, news agency PTI reported.
It further stipulated that the reports must include a site map of the crime scene, a magisterial enquiry report, an inquest report, a post-mortem report, a video cassette/CD of the post-mortem examination, and copies of the deceased's medical-legal certificates.

On Saturday night, as police officers were transporting Ahmad and Ashraf to a medical college in Prayagraj for a checkup, three guys acting as journalists shot them dead at point-blank range.
They were transported from jails in Gujarat and Bareilly to Prayagraj for questioning in relation to the shooting deaths of Umesh Pal and his two police protection guards earlier this year.
When the brothers were slain in front of TV crews, they were restrained. The gruesome images were extensively shared on social media sites and broadcast networks. Just hours before to the funeral, Asad, Ahmad's son, had his last rites conducted in Prayagraj. Asad was shot dead by police on April 13 in Jhansi.
Earlier in the day, a crude bomb was hurled near the home of slain gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmad's lawyer in Prayagraj, news agency PTI reported. However, there were no casualties, police said. "Three bombs were hurled. I think there is a big conspiracy behind this. All this is being done to intimidate me," claimed Daya Shankar Mishra, lawyer of slain gangster Atiq Ahmad, on crude bomb explosions near his house.
