Muzaffarnagar School To Be Derecognised, UP Administration Initiates Process After Viral Video
The Basic Shikhsa Adhikari (BSA) said that the school cannot be run and the Block Education Officer will get the students of the school admitted to another school.
Days after the video of a Muzaffarnagar school went viral on social media where a teacher purportedly made communal remarks and asked the children to slap a Muslim student, the district administration swung into action and initiated the procedure to cancel the recognition of the school. The education department has also sent a notice to the school seeking answers on several points regarding the standards of the school. It has also ordered the closure of the school till the completion of the investigation.
The Basic Shikhsa Adhikari (BSA) said that the school cannot be run and the Block Education Officer will get the students of the school admitted to another school.
The incident came to light when a video went viral on social media that showed teacher Tripta Tyagi asking her students to slap a Muslim boy at Neha Public School in Muzaffarnagar’s Khubbapur village in Uttar Pradesh. The video drew outrage from all quarters including political parties.
Tyagi was booked on the complaint of the boy's family under Indian Penal Code Sections 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) and 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) — both non-cognisable offences, reported PTI.
It should be noted that such offences are bailable and do not lead to immediate arrest, and require a warrant.
In her defence, the teacher claimed that the video was tampered with in order to stoke controversy, and added that the video was shot by an uncle of the boy.
She said that though it was wrong on her part to get a student slapped by his classmates she was forced to do it as she is handicapped and was not able to stand up and reach the student who had not done his assignment.
The BSA of Muzaffarnagar Shubham Shukla said that a show cause notice has been sent to the school management through the secretary of the management committee, Ravinder Tyagi, the PTI report added.
The school management has been asked to furnish its response by August 28 as to why the school's government recognition should not be cancelled.
Shukla also said that a criminal case will be registered against the authorities of the school where the incident took place and that a team has been sent there.
