UCC Implementation In Uttarakhand 'Very Soon': CM Dhami On 'Vijay Diwas' In Dehradun

Expressing his pride as the son of a soldier, CM Dhami stated, "Today is, indeed, a very historic day for us. In 1971, our soldiers forced 93,000 Pakistani soldiers to surrender".

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami participated in the 'Tribute Ceremony' on Saturday, marking 'Vijay Diwas' at Martyr Memorial Gandhi Park in Dehradun. Addressing the gathering, CM Dhami acknowledged the historic victory of the Indian army in 1971 when 93,000 Pakistani soldiers surrendered to the valour of their Indian counterparts.

Expressing his pride as the son of a soldier, CM Dhami stated, "Today is, indeed, a very historic day for us. In 1971, our soldiers forced 93,000 Pakistani soldiers to surrender". He also announced the upcoming implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Uttarakhand, emphasising the state's commitment to leading the nation in adopting this legal framework, news agency ANI reported.

"We are going to implement UCC in Uttarakhand very soon. We are on course to leading the country in implementing this law," CM Dhami said.

Taking to his official social media handle, CM Dhami commemorated 'Vijay Diwas,' posting, "Today is the day to celebrate the Indian Army in the war between India and Pakistan. On this day in the year 1971, about 93 thousand armed Pakistani soldiers surrendered before the bravery of the brave sons of Mother India."

Simultaneously, soldiers from the 9th Corps paid tribute to the fallen heroes of 1971 at Dharamshala's State War Memorial. Lieutenant General KS Brar, the General Officer Commanding Dakshin Bharat Area, paid tribute to the fallen heroes of 1971 at Chennai's War Memorial.

To commemorate Vijay Diwas, the Eastern Naval Command laid a wreath at the War Memorial in Visakhapatnam, paying tribute to army personnel who made the ultimate sacrifice in the 1971 war.

Vice Admiral G Srinivasan, AVSM, VSM Director General Naval Projects, Visakhapatnam, placed a floral wreath at the 'Victory at Sea' War Memorial. Earlier in the day, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, along with CDS Gen Anil Chauhan, Army Chief Gen Manoj Pande, IAF Vice Chief Air Marshal Amar Preet Singh, and Navy Chief Admiral R Hari Kumar, paid their respects to the fallen soldiers at the National War Memorial in New Delhi. MoS Defence Ajay Bhatt also paid tribute to the fallen soldiers at the Memorial on Vijay Diwas.

In Jammu, GOC TIGER Division Major Gen Gaurav Gautam paid his respects at the Balidan Stambh, saying, "I salute the sacrifice of our soldiers," ANI reported. 

Furthermore, on Vijay Diwas, Lt Gen RP Kalita, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) of Eastern Command, laid a wreath at Vijay Smarak at Eastern Command Army HQ, Kolkata, to pay tribute to the fallen soldiers.
